Video Planning Checklist

Plan your next nonprofit video in 15 minutes — clarify your purpose, audience, and

message before production begins.

1. Purpose

â–  What’s the primary goal? (fundraising, awareness, recruitment, etc.)

â–  Who’s the core audience?

â–  What do you want them to think, feel, or do after watching?

2. Story Focus

â–  Whose story will you tell? (client, staff, program, community)

â–  What transformation or impact will we witness?

â–  What’s the emotional heartbeat of the story?

3. Logistics

â–  Key dates or events to capture (galas, site visits, program days)

â–  Interview subjects and locations

â–  Budget range or approval process

4. Distribution Plan

â–  Where will this live? (website, gala screen, social, grant app)

â–  How long should it be for each channel?

â–  Who will handle posting and follow-up?

5. Success Metrics

â–  How will you know it worked? (views, engagement, donations, inquiries)

â–  What feedback will you collect from funders or audiences?

The clearer this checklist is before filming, the more powerful — and cost-effective —your story will be.
